Background:

Pupils attend The Harvey Institute for Non-Conformists; basically an educational institution where young rebel-intellectuals, computer hackers, homosexuals, petty criminals, artists, democratists, subversives, free-thinkers get sent by the state to be "re-educated". Also includes pupils from other parts of the world if deemed necessary to withdraw them from their local culture.

The State = The European Regime, the European arm of the totalitarian World Regime, controlled by The Great Leader. Comprises of the European Regime, Pacific Regime, Arab Confederation, North American Federation, South American Republic, Soviet Republic of Central Asia, African Governance. Government characterised by Orwellian double-think, and close monitoring / crushing of "anti-social" individuals via controlled network of agents and informers.

The Great Leader = interchangeable leader, figurehead? Always claimed to have been same Great Leader since the end of the Great War of Unification (1939-45) but profile so shadowy so as his/her identity to be shrouded in mist.

This year's BR:

The European Regime's second BR, after the first set in France, takes place in and around an evacuated small town in Wiltshire, England, in an approximately 4.5kmx5km area. The border area is surrounded by a huge fence, 30 feet / 10 metres high, electrified. An equal depth is buried underground, and every 200 metres there is a manned guardpost equipped with floodlights to be able to see everything in the fence area, both within the game area and outside.

Players will be provided with a bag containing water, tinned rice pudding in a ring-pull tin, a pre-tuned transistor radio, two maps, and a marker pen. Extra items may also be supplied.

Messages from game control will be issued every six hours via the radio. Players will wear collars similar to the Japanese BRs, but redesigned to avoid identified weakspots. Instead of an explosive charge, the collars are equipped with a needle which, if necessary, will inject participants in the jugular vein with a deadly poison. Pulse rates and positions on the map are also monitored via the collars.

Players are not issued with weapons. Players must find weapons in the town and surrounding area for themselves. However, Game Co-ordinators have placed more deadly weapons than could ordinarily be found in an English small town in places around the map, for players to find.

Gas, electricity and water supplies have not been cut off. Limited petrol supplies are available in the town's four petrol stations.

Danger Zones of 500m x 500m (single) squares will be announced in six-hourly updates, along with the times they go "live". Subsequent to the DZs going live, anyone found in the area will have their collar activated. As the game progresses, more and more Danger Zones will be created, until there is only one square on the map that is not a Danger Zone.

In a new twist on the rules, we have created a new rule called the Group Zone. A 500m x 1km area (two squares on the map) will be announced every twelve hours. Three hours grace are then given for players to make their way to the area, but, if by the end of the subsequent three hours players have not been present in at least one of the squares for at least sixty minutes, their collars will be activated and they will be eliminated from the game.

So, for example: an announcement is made at 12am. The Group Zone will commence at 3am and continue until 6am. Players must be in the Group Zone for at least ninety minutes during that time, or their collars will be activated. At 6am an announcement will be made over the radio saying the GZ is no longer live. Between 6am and 12pm players may go wherever they wish, so long as they do not stray into Danger Zones. At 12pm the next GZ will be announced, starting at 3pm, etc etc etc.

There is a time limit of ten days on the game (game-time: actual time spent rp'ing the game will be significantly longer). RP admin will announce the passing of each six-hour segment with an announcement about Danger Zones, the Group Zone, and any player deaths.

Random events will take place during the RP, and will be announced by moderators.

The winner of the game will be the last surviving individual.
